Last night, Portishead performed at the Zitadelle Spandau in Berlin, Germany. Savages opened. Photographer Erez Avissar was there. Check out a selection of shots after the jump, then head over to our slideshow and Facebook page for even more photos.
Chicago rapper Tree has shared a video for his Sunday School II: When Church Lets Outtrack "Busters". The clip keeps things simple: It visits a variety of locations around Tree's hometown while he raps in the snow. Naturally, the MC wears an awesome fluffy hat.
At this year's Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona, Pitchfork.tv captured a series of performances and interviews with a variety of artists. Watch as Metz perform "Wet Blanket", a highlight off their great debut LP. They also talk about working on new material and getting tired of their old stuff.
Metz have also today shared the animated video for "Get Off", featuring some burly dudes at a junkyard full of destroyed vehicles and a flying dog. It was directed by fellow Sub Pop artist Chad VanGaalen.
M.I.A. Revisits Criticism of /\/\/\Y/\'s "The Message" in Light of NSA Surveillance Revelations
Big Brother "paranoia" now more prescient than it seemed

"The Message", the opening track on M.I.A.'s 2010 record /\/\/\Y/\ caught a lot of flack for lines perceived as politically juvenile: "Headbone connects to the neckbone/ Neckbone connects to the armbone/ Armbone connects to the handbone/ Handbone connects to the internet/ Connected to the Google/ Connected to the government" and "Headbone connected to the headphones/ Headphones connected to the iPhone/ iPhone connected to the internet/ Connected to the Google/ Connected to the government."
Now, presumably in light of the recent news about the N.S.A.'s surveillance program, M.I.A. has taken to her Tumblr to revisit the three-year-old criticisms of those lyrics (including ours, which called the song "a bad demo with a simplistic, paranoid rap that's as rhetorically effective as someone in a dorm room ranting about the C.I.A. inventing A.I.D.S.").
Other descriptions used for the song include "would-be narcissism and paranoia," "awful/obvious/incoherent," "neither a pleasure to listen to nor think about," "horribly paranoid rant," "unremarkable and... perilously tied to a transient time," "half baked paranoid ramble," "clumsy, ham-fisted" and more.
M.I.A.'s Tumblr collage shows that in retrospect, the criticisms of M.I.A.'s politically charged words and alleged paranoia can seem just as silly as her lyrics once might have.

Sounds like M.I.A.'s been going through some of the same industry frustrations that Kanye West has discussed in his renegade leadup to Yeezus. "It's not easy, it's not easy. It's not easy. I keep finishing the record and handing it in, finishing the record and handing it in," she told Lowe about the record release cycle.
"It's just one of those things where I've given up at this point. I was literally going to start... putting out records from my bedroom," she said. This was my last stab at it-- I'm going to hand it in and wait for it to go out the way albums go out. If I didn't get it out right now, I would've definitely exploded.
In related M.I.A. news, Matangi, her fourth studio LP, is now scheduled for fall release through N.E.E.T./Interscope. She's also announced a string of tour dates surrounding her performance at this year's Pitchfork Music Festival-- find the schedule below, after the "Bring the Noize" art.

Watch: R. Kelly Joined Jim James' Bonnaroo Superjam
By Evan Minsker on June 16, 2013 at 5:49 p.m.
Following Michael Winslow's guest spot at Animal Collective's Bonnaroo set, last night's Superjam had a tough act to follow. So it looks like My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James and John Oates took a page out of Phoenix's Coachella playbook: They brought in R. Kelly. (Also: Billy Idol, who sang T. Rex's "Bang a Gong".) Below, watch a portion of Kells' performance-- he sang Sam Cooke's iconic track "A Change Is Gonna Come" (via CoS).

M.I.A. to Debut New Track Next Week
By Jenn Pelly on June 13, 2013 at 2:00 p.m.
New music from M.I.A. has been scarce as of late, save for the unreleased 2007 track and mix she's shared this year. On Monday, BBC Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe will debut a new M.I.A. track on his show (which airs between 7 and 9 p.m. London time.)
It seems that the track will be "Bring the Noize". M.I.A.'s website features a looped animation promoting the song, and this Tweet also indicates as such. A version of "Bring the Noize" appeared on the mix M.I.A. made for the fashion line Kenzo earlier this year.
