Just like any other considerate and conscientious member of the community, The Pitchfork Music Festival
realizes that there are countless organizations working tirelessly to better the world we live in, or simply
to provide a service that is not conventionally available to those who need it. From national organizations
striving to help those who can't help themselves, such as United Way and Saving Shelter Pets, to local organizations
that simply make the lives of those they touch a little brighter, such as Rock for Kids and Literacy Works, The
Pitchfork Music Festival contributes to the causes that play an important role in our community and provides
them with a venue to promote their objectives. Please take a look at the organizations PMF strongly supports
and hopes you will, as well.
THE UNITED WAY
United Way is the place where everyone who cares about others can do something right now about hunger,
homelessness, unemployment, violence, low graduation rates and lack of healthcare. As the largest
non-governmental funder of health and human services, United Way does what no one organization can do:
- Bring together leaders from government, corporations, social services and the community to create
olutions to the most critical issues people face.
- Fund the network of programs that together can best address those needs.

IllINOIS CHOICE ACTION TEAM
The Illinois Choice Action Team is a committed group of volunteers advancing NARAL Pro-Choice America's
Mission. We are based in Chicago, Illinois, but we work with activists all over the state. Our ultimate goal
is to use the political process to ensure reproductive rights for all women in Illinois. To meet this goal,
we engage in many activities, including: working for pro-choice candidates during election cycles, educating
groups and the public about reproductive rights issues, monitoring state legislation related to reproductive
rights, boosting our visibility in the community via canvassing and tabling at events, working with
like-minded organizations, and staging protests (or counter-protests).

GIRLS ROCK!
Girls Rock! Chicago is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to fostering girls creative expression,
positive self-esteem and community awareness through rock music. Our summer camp program motivates girls
through instrument instruction, music composition coaching, recording workshops, song-writing workshops,
hands-on activities team-building activities and band performances. We seek to provide positive and supportive
role models for campers who will share their experiences as women involved in some form of making music.
Girls Rock! Chicago believes in maintaining an emphasis on accessibility to ensure that girls have access to
equipment and instruction regardless of their socio-economic background, race, ethnicity, or neighborhood.
Tuition is based on a sliding scale and no one is turned away for lack of funding. We believe that rock
music can be a crucial tool in allowing young women to respond to preconceived notions of what they can
do and what they can become.
SAVING SHELTER PETS
Saving Shelter Pets provides assistance to homeless companion animals, to give them the chance at life they
deserve. We are a small, all-volunteer organization with supporters located throughout the country.
Our Rescue & Transport Program saves cats and dogs from high-kill shelters in the Southeastern US and
moves them to safe (no-kill) rescues in the Northeast, where they have a much better opportunity for
adoption. All animals are quarantined out of the shelter to ensure they are healthy to travel, and receive
full medical care before their journey.
Our signature Puppy Promises Program operates in two Georgia counties. This program rescues unwanted litters
of puppies, and also spays their mother and other companion animals in the participating family's household,
to help reduce pet overpopulation.
Our Spay & Neuter Program offers access to services and financial assistance to low-income pet owners in
targeted areas of the Southeast and Midwest. Recently we have provided funding to local spay/neuter efforts
in Indiana, Ohio, and Georgia.
ROCK FOR KIDS
Rock For Kids is a non-profit organization that provides support, hope, inspiration and assistance to
underserved children and teens. Realizing that music can be a positive motivator in a young person's life,
Rock For Kids provides free year-round music education for children in need. Rock For Kids positively impacts
and celebrates young lives by offering access to safe and constructive learning experiences through which
children may challenge themselves, build self-esteem and explore their own creative potential.
NOTRE DAME AMERICORPS
Notre Dame AmeriCorps is a partnership between Notre Dame Mission Volunteers and the AmeriCorps program. Our
goal is to promote and encourage education, community empowerment, leadership development and multicultural
harmony in hopes of producing greater unity, less violence, and better-informed citizens in our communities.
In Chicago we have 12 full time volunteers working at eight partnering sites. The sites include two schools,
a social service agency, several community centers and a homeless shelter. The NDA members work with both
youth and adults to improve educational opportunities in Chicago. Notre Dame AmeriCorps members teach ESL,
computer literacy and GED prep. They also tutor and mentor youth, assist in classrooms, run after-school
programs, assist low-income families in obtaining services, and provide emergency services for homeless
individuals.

DILL PICKLE FOOD CO-OP
The Dill Pickle Food Co-op is a community-owned natural foods grocery story coming soon to the Logan Square
neighborhood of Chicago. The Co-op, which will be open to all, will offer Chicago an alternative to
conventional grocery stores, in both food and its economic model. With a philosophy of people over
profits, our goal is to make healthy and eco-friendly goods available at the lowest prices possible. The
shelves will be stocked with mostly organic and locally produced goods, and member-owners who invest in the
Dill Pickle will have the benefit of regular discounts and an equal say about major Co-op decisions. Part
of our mission is also to educate the public on food issues, cooperative practices and general healthy
living. With over 375 member-owners, we hope to open our doors at 3039 W. Fullerton by the end of this
summer, but we are counting on you to make this happen. Please take the time to sign up as a member-owner
of the Dill Pickle at dillpicklefoodcoop.org/member,
and help us to open Chicago's only cooperative grocery store!
IRV & SHELLY'S FRESH PICKS
Irv & Shelly's Fresh Picks www.freshpicks.com offers
year-round home delivery in the Chicago area of local and organic produce, meat, dairy, eggs, baked goods and
more. We are partnering with sustainable farmers to grow the supply of local food in a way that protects our
health and the environment. Most food in this country is grown on large corporate factory farms that use
pesticides, antibiotics and hormones that pollute the soil, water supply, air and wildlife all around them.
The food then travels an average of 1500 miles to a retail location where it is sold, creating significant
greenhouse gas emissions along the way. At Fresh Picks we are rebuilding the local food infrastructure, with
our sustainable farm partners, to tackle the environmental and health issues related to food while making
it easier for more people to have access to healthy local foods.
Cass McCombs has as many faces as cities that he's called home. While moving from the Pacific Coast to the east, spending time down south and overseas, and now living in the middle of the country, Cass McCombs has written songs for both the streets and the priests, the seers and the school children, for suburban families and whatever's left of the ivory tower. His most recent album, Catacombs, was released in 2009 on Domino Records.
Following the release of their self-titled debut on Western Vinyl, Here We Go Magic have signed to Secretly Canadian for their follow-up due in 2010. The band spent much of last year touring with Grizzly Bear and the Walkmen before playing the Austin City Limits festival. Lately they've been hard at work recording their self-produced sophomore album in a house in upstate New York, and while the first record was the result of band leader Luke Temple getting creative in his bedroom, this release is a fully fledged team effort.

The 2002 release of "Losing My Edge" ushered in one of the great new talents of the aughts, LCD Soundsystem, aka James Murphy. While also focusing on the running of his label, DFA, Murphy perfected a sound that would come to represent much of the label's output in the following years. The 2007 release of Sound of Silver shot Murphy to the tips of tastemakers' tongues; universally acclaimed, the record featured the minimalist single "All My Friends" and the heart-tugging "Someone Great", indie staples the world over.
Long a key component of the Providence, R.I.-based noise-rock label Load Records, Lightning Bolt's live shows have garnered a lot of talk, with the band often setting up behind the audience and sonically assaulting them as soon as the previous band completes their set. The 2005 album, Hypermagic Mountain, found Lightning Bolt tossing decades' worth of musical history into a wood chipper and coming up with some chewy chainsaw taffy. Their newest album, Earthly Delights, comes after two years of work and has the sound of a 10-piece band.
Modest Mouse formed in 1993 in Issaquah, Wash., and released their first full-length album, This Is a Long Drive for Someone With Nothing to Think About, on the Up label in 1996. With the release of their second album, The Lonesome Crowded West in 1997, the band's status reached new heights with a legion of fans and critical acclaim. In 2000, Modest Mouse were signed to Epic Records and released their third album, The Moon & Antarctica; 2004 brought the release of Modest Mouse's breakthrough, Good News For People Who Love Bad News, which included the hit "Float On" and earned the band two Grammy nominations. Their most recent album, We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank, was released in 2007 and immediately entered the Billboard Top 200 chart at #1, and last summer saw the release of a special eight-song EP, No One's First, And You're Next.
Since coming together over 20 years ago, Pavement released a bunch of EPs and singles and five great albums, then split. Slanted & Enchanted, the classic debut, casts a shadow miles wider than its modest tape width. Stephen Malkmus, Spiral Stairs, Mark Ibold, MC Bob Nastanovitch, and Steve West laid down the follow-up, the hook-heavy Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain with the detached confidence of heirs apparent. Wowee Zowee was a stoned and emotional sprawl that people are still finding new nuances in today. The last two LPs, Brighten the Corners and Terror Twilight, were stately showboats, intelligent, warm and cool. This spring and summer sees the highly anticipated return of Pavement for the first time since their final show at the Brixton Academy in 1999.
The world first encountered the lyrical prowess of Raekwon as a member of the legendary Wu-Tang Clan. In 1995 he gave us his first solo effort, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx..., which has become one of the most highly regarded albums in hip hop. And 2009 was a banner year for Rae with the release of Only Built 4 Cuban Linx... Pt. II; here's hoping he continues to further solidify his place in hip-hop history.
Sleigh Bells are the duo of Derek Miller, formerly of Florida hardcore band Poison the Well, and Alexis Krauss, from teenpop group RubyBlue. The Brooklyn-based group's first recordings, in-the-red synth rave ups with cool, sassy vocals from Krauss, have made them an artist to watch in 2010, attracting praise from critics large and small. Their debut album will be released this year.
Annie Clark's recorded debut as St. Vincent, Marry Me, gave immediate notice that a dizzying new talent had emerged from the flatlands of Texas. In 2007, Clark capped a year of international touring by winning the Plug Awards' Female Artist of the Year. For her beguiling and sophisticated sophomore album, Actor, Clark developed an idiosyncratic writing process, immersing herself in some of her favorite films-- Badlands, Pierrot le Fou, The Wizard of Oz, Stardust Memories, Sleeping Beauty-- and beginning each song as a secret film score, then slowly giving it independence as its structure and lyrics came fully into focus. If Marry Me served as the world's introduction to Annie Clark, Actor may prove to be her coronation.
